Leeds made just two Half-Time substitutions, when David Robertson took over from Danny Granville at Left Back and Matthew Jones replaced Tommy Knarvik at Inside Right. It had been Knarvik who had set up Lee Sharpe for the United opening goal halfway through the first half, but the brilliance of the home keeper, Dickinson had restricted the score and David Hopkin and Clyde Wijnhard had both seen goalworthy efforts repelled. It was left to Centre Half Jonathan Woodgate to score United's second midway through the second half. Paul Robinson, Wes Boyle, Mark Jackson and Lee Matthews remained unused on the Leeds bench.
